JAPAN 111 - Elementary Japanese I Units: 5 GE - CSU C2 - Foundations of Learning - Arts and Humanities - Humanities: History, Languages other than English, Literature, Philosophy, Religious Studies
Grading Method: LCR: Letter Grade with Cr/NC available. The grading default for the class will be letter grade, but students can opt to take it for Cr/NC
Five lectures and one hour of laboratory.
Elementary language skills: fundamental grammar, idiomatic expressions, hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji characters. Reading, writing, speaking, oral-aural drills, and relationship between language and culture.
Maximum Credits: 5 Note: Taught in Japanese. Native speakers of Japanese or students whose placement test results demonstrate educated native or near-native fluency will not receive credit for taking lower division courses. No credit will be given for lower division courses taken after successfully completing any upper division Japanese course taught in Japanese. No credit will be given for JAPAN 111, JAPAN 112 , JAPAN 211 , JAPAN 212 taken out of sequence.
