This emphasis is designed to combine the degree and credential into a four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program. The program is designed to qualify the student for a social science degree and a preliminary single subject teaching credential in social science.
A minor is not required with this major.
Impacted Programs
The social science major, social science major in preparation for the single subject teaching credential, and ITEP are impacted programs. Students must enter the university under the designated major code for selected programs. To be admitted to the selected program, refer to the program description for specific impacted criteria.

Impacted Program
The social science major in preparation for the emphasis in integrated teacher education program (ITEP-SS) is designated as an impacted program.
To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).
To be admitted to the major, students must meet the following criteria:
A. Complete with a grade of C (2.0) or better:

These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
B. Complete a minimum of 60 transferable semester units.
C. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.67 or better.
Preparation for the Major
(29 units)
These prerequisite courses may not be taken Cr/NC. The minimum grade in each class is C (2.0) or better.
Language Requirement
Competency (successfully completing the third college semester or fifth college quarter) is required in one language other than English to fulfill the graduation requirement. Refer to section of catalog on “Graduation Requirements.” Spanish is recommended for those planning to work in this part of the United States.
Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement
Students must have fulfilled the Writing Placement Assessment with a score of 8 or above before taking TE 405W * and earn a grade of C (2.0) or better. See “Graduation Requirements” section for a complete listing of requirements.

Additional Requirements for Subject Matter Preparation Certification
Certification of subject matter competency offered by social science requires completion of all preparation for the major and major courses with at most one course with a C- or lower among courses listed under preparation for the major, and at most one course with a C- or lower among courses listed under the major. If a course is repeated, the highest grade will count. Certification must be achieved before student teaching.
ITEP Admission Requirements
Students apply for admission to the Integrated Teacher Education Program during the spring of their sophomore year. Students who qualify for admission to the Integrated Teacher Education Program in social science the summer prior to their junior year must have a GPA of 2.67 or better, passing scores on the CBEST, a documented field experience, and complete program application.
