In addition to meeting the requirements for classified graduate standing, the student must meet the basic requirements for the master’s degree as described in Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree and complete 31 units of coursework approved by the graduate adviser.
Undergraduate Preparation for Admission
Before entering the program, students must complete the following upper division courses:
Students with Inadequate Undergraduate Preparation
Students with inadequate undergraduate preparation may be accepted conditionally but will be required to complete courses for removal of the deficiency in the first year of study.
Program of Study
To include a plan for removal of any conditions on admission, must be approved by the program adviser. Students must complete MATH 636; MATH 630 or MATH 668; MATH 693A or MATH 693B; MATH 780, MATH 797, MATH 799A, and 15 units of 500- or 600-level courses in mathematics or in a related discipline selected with the approval of the program adviser. The program of study must include at least 22 units in mathematics or statistics, and maximum 12 units of 500-level courses. Students must select Plan A (Thesis) and give a public oral defense of the thesis. A thesis normally takes one year to complete and is done under the direction of a thesis adviser.
