Admission to the Degree Curriculum
The M.S. degree in Public Health is offered with a concentration in environmental health sciences.
To be considered for admission to this program, a student must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree (BA or BS) in biology, chemistry, engineering, or other basic or applied natural science. The School of Public Health should be consulted for specific course preparation recommended for the Master of Science program. In some cases, if an applicant is deficient in certain basic or applied science areas, some remedial coursework can be completed as an unclassified graduate student. However, credits earned by remedial courses cannot be applied toward the required number of units for the master’s degree. Students who do not meet all of the above requirements for admission with classified graduate standing may be admitted with conditionally classified graduate standing upon the recommendation of the admissions committee and the graduate adviser. Students so admitted will be advised as to remedial steps to take to satisfy the requirement to achieve classified graduate standing.
Advancement to Candidacy
All students must meet the general requirements for advancement to candidacy as described in Requirements for Master’s Degrees . Students completing the Master of Science degree with a concentration in environmental health sciences must (1) have satisfactorily completed at least 12 units of coursework of the 36-unit official program to include at least two courses chosen from the list of courses required with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) and no grade less than a B-; (2) have a thesis proposal which has received the approval of the School of Public Health faculty.
