(Academic Plan Code: 666574CRTS)

The purpose of the Embodied Education and Somatics Certificate is to give students a solid foundation in somatic praxis to support their own relationship with their body and to give them tools for supporting others in bodily knowing. Movement, holistic learning, imagery, vocal, and touch techniques are at the heart of this series of courses, all offered in the Dance Program by faculty with certifications in various somatic and body-mind methodologies. Classes create a playground for the interplay of theories and practices that center self-awareness and self-regulation through embodied inquiry, making the certificate an excellent complement to a variety of degree programs from those in the fields of mental health, education, and medicine to the arts and humanities.

Students must obtain a grade of B (3.0) or better in each of the certificate courses. Courses taken for a major or minor may not apply to the certificate. Students may obtain the Embodied Education certificate without majoring or minoring in Dance and need not have dance experience. An interview with the Dance Praxis faculty is required for entry into the certificate program. Contact the Dance Advisor for additional information. All courses listed in the prospective curriculum are required to obtain the certificate.
