Art, Emphasis in Studio Arts, B.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences

All candidates for a degree in liberal arts and sciences must complete the graduation requirements listed in the section of this catalog on Graduation Requirements . No more than 48 units in art courses can apply to the degree for students with an emphasis in art history. For students majoring in art with an emphasis in studio arts no more than 57 units in art courses can apply to the degree.

This major in art may be planned with an emphasis in studio arts or art history.

A minor is not required with this major.

Emphasis in Studio Arts


To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).

Impacted Program


The studio arts emphasis is designated as an impacted program and specific criteria, which include a portion of the Preparation for the Major, are used to admit students. To be admitted to the studio arts emphasis, students must meet the following criteria:

These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);

Complete with a grade of C (2.0) or better:

Have a cumulative GPA of 2.20 or better;

C


Students not meeting the minimum GPA may petition for special consideration.

Preparation for the Major


(27 units)

Students completing the California Community College Associate in Arts in Studio Arts for Transfer (AA-T) will satisfy preparation for the major. If ART 102  or ART 104  was not completed as part of the AA-T, it must be completed at SDSU.

Language Requirement


Competency (successfully completing the third college semester or fifth college quarter) is required in one language other than English to fulfill the graduation requirement. Refer to section of catalog on “Graduation Requirements .”

Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement


Completing one of the approved upper division writing courses (W) with a grade of C (2.0) or better. See “Graduation Requirements ” section for a complete listing of requirements.

International or Professional Experience Requirement


Completion of a study abroad or international experience selected from an SDSU study abroad approved program; or an approved art internship experience by successfully completing ART 452 .
