2. Three Focus Areas
Three focus areas courses with no more than one course at the 500-level approved by the thesis/project adviser.

NOTE: Courses listed under more than one focus area can only be counted once upon completion towards the degree.
3. Culminating Experience

Students select one of two plans of study; however, those students who express a desire to pursue doctoral studies are encouraged to choose Plan A (thesis). Students select a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering who is willing to serve as thesis/project adviser. The adviser is responsible for supervising the student’s work and selecting the committee.
Plan A students present their thesis work before the thesis committee. The committee shall consist of the thesis adviser who serves as committee chair and two additional faculty members, one from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and one from another department at San Diego State University. Approval of the thesis by the committee is required.
Plan B students present their project before the project committee and complete a project report. The project committee shall consist of the project adviser who serves as chair, and one additional faculty member from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Approval of the project by the committee is required.
