The program below describes 120 units required for the degree. Each course specifically listed in the program is required. In addition, the number of units specified in each elective category represents a minimum requirement.

The Major

Construction management addresses the ever-changing conditions of construction projects. The construction management major prepares students to manage critical issues as the industry evolves to deliver more resilient infrastructure (e.g., airports, bridges, dams, new forms of water recovery/recycling, roads, water distribution and treatment) and sustainable commercial, housing, and infrastructure projects. Construction managers are expected to bridge the gap between architects, communities, engineers, owners, regulatory agencies, suppliers, and trades in public and private sectors. The profession requires graduates with strong communication skills who are able to engage with professionals and the local community, while negotiating differences and evaluating consequences of their actions.

Impacted Program

The construction engineering management major is an impacted program. To be admitted to the construction engineering major, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Complete with a grade of C (2.0) or better: CIV E 225 , CHEM 100 , MATH 150 , PHYS 180A , PHYS 180B . These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);
  2. Have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.5.

To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).

All candidates for a degree in applied arts and sciences must complete the graduation requirements listed in Graduation Requirements .

A minor is not required for this major.

General Education


Engineering majors automatically satisfy the Natural Sciences and Quantitative Reasoning and Lifelong Learning and Self-Development foundations GE areas by completion of preparation for the major. Engineering majors automatically satisfy the Natural Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences explorations GE areas by completion of the major.

Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement


Complete one of the approved upper division writing courses (W) with a grade of C (2.0) or better. See Graduation Requirements  for a complete listing of requirements.
