In addition to meeting the requirements for classified graduate standing, the student must meet the basic requirements for the master’s degree as described in Graduation Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree and complete 30 units of coursework approved by the graduate adviser.

Undergraduate Preparation for Admission
Before entering the program, students must complete the following upper division courses: Two Courses in Analysis
To include Two Courses in Differential Equations
One Course in Programming or Numerical Analysis
One Course in Linear Algebra
Students with Inadequate Undergraduate Preparation
Students with inadequate undergraduate preparation may be accepted conditionally but will be required to complete courses for removal of the deficiency in the first year of study. Program of Study
To include a plan for removal of any conditions on admission, must be approved by the graduate adviser. The program of study will include at least 21 units in mathematics. The 30 units may include at most 12 units of approved 500-level mathematics courses and at most six units of independent research. The student must select Plan A, complete MATH 799A - Thesis or Project , and give a public oral defense of the thesis. A thesis normally takes one year to complete and is done under the direction of a thesis adviser. |
