International Experience
In recognition of the SDSU Shared Vision goal of a global university and increasing globalization in all sectors of the world and within societies, the College of Health and Human Services international experience for undergraduate students has been established. All College of Health and Human Services majors are required to participate in a pre-approved international experience to increase awareness of cross-cultural issues, global health, economic, political, cultural, social services, and health challenges experienced by local populations in international environments. The CHHS International Experience Requirement has two components: a “travel” component and an “academic” component. Students participate for two or more weeks (alternatives to the international experience requirement must be approved by the dean of the college based on serious and compelling life events or physical limitations; a relevant course will be substituted). Specific details can be found at http://chhs.sdsu.edu/international/.
To meet the international experience requirement, majors must complete one of the following:
- A CSU Study Abroad Program;
- An SDSU Exchange Program;
- An SDSU Study Abroad Program;
- An SDSU Study Travel Program;
OR
- One course selected from:
International students at SDSU and active military are not required to participate in the international travel component of the requirement, but must successfully complete the online lecture portion of HHS 350 to satisfy the academic requirement.
