The Master of Arts degree in teacher leadership is intended to prepare effective classroom teachers for new leadership roles at their institutions by providing new knowledge and leadership skills, furthering a sense of inquiry within the realm of institutional change, and providing a scholarly community of educators with similar career goals and trajectories. Graduates of the program will have the skills to be effective in roles such as assessment leader, curriculum leader, instructional coach, master teacher, and mentor. Graduates of the program will understand collective efficacy, its impact on an institution, and the expectation they contribute to building it. Graduates will develop a deep understanding of high-quality instruction. Graduates will also know how to influence the learning and practice of adults from a parallel position of authority.

To apply for admission to the teacher leadership program, a student must complete an application for admission to both the university and the Department of Educational Leadership. All applications should include two letters of recommendation from two supervisory administrators. Upon admission to the university and the program, all students will discuss the degree curriculum with the graduate adviser during the first semester in the program.
