Art, Emphasis in Applied Design, B.A.

All candidates for a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete the graduation requirements listed in the section of this catalog on “Graduation Requirements .”

A minor is not required with this major.

Emphasis in Applied Design


To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).

Impacted Program


The applied design emphasis is designated as an impacted program and specific criteria, which include a portion of the Preparation for the Major, are used to admit students. To be admitted to the applied design emphasis, students must meet the following criteria:

These courses cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC);

Complete with a grade of C (2.0) or better:

Have a cumulative GPA of 2.20 or better;

C


Students not meeting the minimum GPA may petition for special consideration.

Preparation for the Major


(30 units)

Must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).

Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement


Complete one of the approved upper division writing courses (W) with a grade of C (2.0) or better. See “Graduation Requirements ” section for a complete listing of requirements.

Major


A minimum of 30 upper division units in art to include:

  • 3 units from Clay, Metal, and Wood
  • 9 additional units in ONE of the areas: Clay, Metal, and Wood
  • 6 units of any ART electives
  • 6 units of Art History
