Impacted Program

To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).

The art major in preparation for the single subject teaching credential is an impacted program and specific criteria, which include a portion of the Preparation for the Major, are used to admit students. To be admitted to the art major in preparation for the single subject teaching credential, students must meet the following criteria:

Preparation for the Major

(36 units)

• ART 100 - Drawing I Units: 3 must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
• ART 101 - Two Dimensional Design Units: 3 must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
• ART 103 - Three Dimensional Design Units: 3 must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
• ART 104 - Artists and Designers in Real Time Units: 3 must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
• ART 204 - Painting I Units: 3
• ART 220 - Design in Crafts Units: 3
• ART 240 - Fundamentals of Digital Media Units: 3
• ART 258 - Introduction to Art History I Units: 3 must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
• ART 259 - Introduction to Art History II Units: 3 must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better and cannot be taken for credit/no credit (Cr/NC).
• Three units of art electives
• PSY 101 - Introductory Psychology Units: 3

• CFD 270 - Human Development Across the Lifespan Units: 3

• or

• PSY 230 - Developmental Psychology Units: 3 But not both.

Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement

Completing one of the approved upper division writing courses (W) with a grade of C (2.0) or better. See “Graduation Requirements ” section for a complete listing of requirements.
