BA/MS 4+1 Degree Program (BMGBD) (SIMS Code: XXXXXX)

The BA/MS 4+1 degree program (BMGBD) is intended for international business (IB) students seeking to start and accelerate careers related to international business development across a wide variety of sectors. Students must successfully complete a minimum of 150 units to be awarded simultaneously the B.A. degree in International Business and the M.S. degree in Global Business Development.

Students must apply and be admitted to the BA/MS 4+1 degree (BMGBD). All students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.2. Students may apply for the program at the end of the junior year with a minimum overall GPA of 3.2 among the completed courses. Students attain graduate status when they have earned at least 120 units towards the completion of the BMGBD program. Students in specializations/regional emphases requiring 129 units or more can substitute the following undergraduate classes with their graduate equivalents:

MGT 405  with B A 676 ;

FIN 329  with FIN 654 ;

MKTG 376  with MKTG 769 .

Students must achieve at least a 3.0 average in the courses numbered 500 and above and specified on their official program for the 30 unit master’s degree. If for any reason a student does not satisfactorily complete the requirements for the Master of Science in Global Business Development degree, they will be awarded the B.A. degree in International Business, upon completion of the requirements for the B.A. degree.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this 4+1 program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the major functional areas of business including international business concepts and trends and an ability to internationalize domestically developed business methods and practices.
  • Distinguish and analyze ethical problems that occur in business and society, and choose and defend ethical solutions.
  • Develop an appreciation of the history, culture, and business practices and protocols of an appropriate world region.
  • Communicate effectively in both writing and orally and acquire appropriate second language proficiency.
  • Possess analytical and communication skills related to global business environment
  • Apply entrepreneurial perspective and management skills related to sales and business development in a global context
  • Demonstrate cross-cultural business knowledge and competencies
