Classical Music Minor

To be admitted to the minor program, the student must audition to demonstrate vocal or instrumental performing ability.

The minor in music consists of a minimum of 22 units in music selected from one of the following areas:

Electro-Acoustic Music
Elementary Music Education
Classical Music
Jazz Instrumental

Classical Music

Courses in the minor may not be counted toward the major, but may be used to satisfy preparation for the major and general education requirements, if applicable. A minimum of six upper division units must be completed in residence at San Diego State University.

To be admitted to this area students must take a placement examination in comprehensive musicianship. Requirements include

MUSIC 105 - Introduction to Elements of Music Units: 3 (or passing placement examination)
MUSIC 110A - Piano - Elementary Class Instruction Units: 1
MUSIC 110B - Piano - Elementary Class Instruction Units: 1
MUSIC 151 - Introduction to Music Units: 3
MUSIC 205A - Comprehensive Musicianship Units: 3
MUSIC 205B - Comprehensive Musicianship Units: 3
Eight units of upper division electives selected with the approval of the adviser
