Prerequisite(s): MUSIC 151. Completion of lower division GE Area 1. Completion of lower division GE Area 1. Junior or senior standing.

European art music from 1750 to beginning of 20th century. Evolution of musical style as a response to historical and cultural context. Interrelationships of music, politics, technology, economics, and ideology. Open to music majors and minors only.

Note: Satisfies the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) for students who get a minimum grade of C or Cr. DW Courses require both courses to satisfy the (GWAR). Upper-division courses should only be taken by students who have completed 60 semester units or more. In exceptional cases, a student who has completed fewer than 60 units may enroll in upper division courses. Not open to students with credit in MUSIC 308B.
